WELDERS HAVEN'T CHANGED
. . . THE WELD CONTROLS HAVE!

In 1886 Elihu Thompson discovered the basic principles of resistance welding
and a new method of metal joining was born. It wasn’t until World War II that
the economic advantages of resistance welding combining low cost and high speed
operation were fully understood. For instance, with the P-51 Mustang, the
aircraft industry estimated the cost per weld at about 2 cents as compared to 5
to 8 cents for riveting.
Change came rapidly after WW II with the change of foot kickers to air
hydraulics. The most dramatic changes which are continuing today are the changes
in controllers. In the years since WW II we have gone from electromechanical
controllers to vacuum tube controllers to solid state microprocessor controls.
The first of these solid state models featured single programs and standard
squeeze, weld, hold, and off. This was obsoleted by microprocessor controls with
the ability to have up to 300 separate programs with all options such as pulse,
slope, quench and temper as standard. These units were obsoleted and replaced by
controllers which now, are able to preset tip force with every program. Today
the controllers are available with all the previous features and the addition of
constant current both primary and secondary. It is also possible to feed this
information into a computer for storage, which can be retrieved at any time.
These changes were necessary to meet the needs of customers whose goal is zero
defects, the requirements of ISO 9000, and the precise control of the new alloys
developed for the automotive and appliance industries. The prices of these
controllers range from $1,995.00 to $5,000.00. These controls include a water
cooled SCR contactor. New features for SPC are being added regularly. Call for
Information.
We distribute a complete line of welding controls from such names as: Intertron (formerly
Interlock), Entron, WTC, Unitrol, Medar, Robotron,
and Miyachi constant current controls. Ask for our Welding Control
Replacement Information data sheet. Fax this information back to our office and
allow our sales staff to assist you in selecting a new welding control for our
specific requirements.
As an added feature, Resistance Welding Equipment & Supply can repair
most U.S. and Foreign made weld controls, SCR Contactors and Transformers.
